As a curious lad who went on to get a CS degree, I was spellbound by how well RCT/2 ran on my parent's IBM machine that had always made weird noises when booting. I saved up my allowance and did extra chores to buy this from Best Buy in early/mid 2000. This was the only game that competed with StarCraft in my mind. The number of near physical altercations I had with my social butterfly brother and his use of AOL instant messenger in competition for the computer was innumerable.
Just the ADHD I need....
This game taught me the value of your money making interest vs you paying interest. And inexpensive food can be profitable and make guests happy(looking at you six flags)
lol he doesn't even come close randy linden or john carmack
its not supposed to hold a candle to linux. you're going through the dark on a motorcycle with temple os.
In reality, in assembly you don't to count the label lignes, it's just a IDE type of making the coding more readable, but yeh if you juge by the text editor length assembly will be always more bigger.
But if you analyse some compiled C from executable files, you can see that some times a lot of redundance is happening, even some times bad structuring, not always, C compilers now are famous for being the mose blazingly fastes compilers in the world, only that it's not as best as the human optimisation, for now, how knows when compilers will be AI and can not only understand what you wana do, but also optimise at it's finest
I’m too young to play rollercoaster tycoon in its hay day. However I played thrillville: off the rails, which I remember fondly
legend
Everyone who games on a PC loves Lord Gaben.
There is something inherently funny yet awestruck that GabeN took _just enough_ cut to keep his control over the company. That _0.1%_ is small yet huge at the same time.
OOOOOH MAW GAWD 💀💀💀
Chris Sawyer was on the peak of creating his own WORLD if he had been cooking until now who knows how complex the VR will be.
There’s a huge difference between a single developer working on a project and making it perfect to a group of people being pressured by a parent company to release a game on time. Why would RCT need bug fixes?
It is not a masterpiece, it is THE GAME. We will never have a game like this again with how the industry is these days.
This is one of the best games ever created! It gave me such an incredible feeling as a child and I still play it every once and awhile today!
PC gamers: good thing dude's on our side
Parkitect is the best and closest remake I can recommend. If you love the original roller coaster game then buy parkitect
3:03 you mean 45 degrees?
Yep. thanks to writing directly in assembly. RCT was able to do simulations like a game from 2014 and squeeze out that efficency from hardware from 1999.
Mad respect for Sawyer, I sadly grew up loving RCT3 and it's expansions cause I was too young but I will give the previous iterations a lengthy playthrough now to see it for myself.
I've coded a few things in ASM and it is quite a pain to make basically anything compared to a lot of other languages, but I do hope viewers of this video also will understand that games like FF6, Chrono Trigger, Link to the Past, and Super Mario World all on the SNES were created with ASM as well. Yes they had full teams, with testers and the like, but most of those had one lead dedicated programmer who did most, if not all of the work, for those projects.
"G"s end up in prison not runnning companies that the IRS knows about.
cool now make it in binary
people still play transport tycoon today
It was in so many ways impressive and insanely good game.
Loved this game. Recently bought it as a phone app. Not quite the same at that scale but still cool
How long are we gonna use random Satoshi's picture, who is not even involved with the project? xD
Half-life Alyx is NOT half-life 3 💀
- makes 4 near technically perfect absolute bangers - quits - refuses to elaborate
Gabe is a legend. One of the few remaining visionaries in the industry. And one of the few modern companies CEOs who knows what playing videogames is.
Chris built RCT in a cave with a box of scraps!!!!!
g a b e
1:11 The simple fact that you have to explain this makes me feel old. Fuck
autism is a hell of a gift
What's so surprising here? Lol so many games were writtin in asm before 2000. For a example, NES/Sega games are pretty much all written in assembly. Mehhh
Why only 700 view's ?
That’s because he probably built a ai brain
The actual amount of detail in Rtc was just so ahead of its time. Down to the contents of guests pockets. I've spent 1000s of hours building parks...
Absolutely love RCT, but for some odd reason RCT2 is more appealing to me
3:40 Assembly isn't a language, it's a class of languages.
calling half life alyx half life 3 is crazy
He's a rare beast. IT's from that era are exceptionally intelligent. He has good emotions, ethics, and didn't let anything change him. What surprises me is how he can be so gifted, achieved, and still remain so human.
talks about htc vive and then skips to steam deck. Bro what happend to the valve index
i don't get this, when i compile my code, its binary in the end, how is that different with asm. how is asm to binary faster at runtime. that doesn't make any sense to me
the growth from c to asm is in no way exponential. that would be absurd.
looked it up myself. the change wasn't hardware getting good enough to run c, but c compilers actually being efficient to a degree where it's negligible. so tldr, c compilers were trash back then
Today's C compilers can write better assembly than 99% of ASM programmers. That wasn't the case when he made that game. And also the hardware was much weaker back then, so every bit of memory counted.
I’d say RCT3 was the best possible 3D representation of RCT given the time it was made and before Atari started cash draining their properties. There was plenty of easter eggs and creative elements of RCT3. I wouldn’t consider it a downgrade in any regard, if you don’t like 3D graphics that’s a personal preference but it had no impact on the overall game. The community mods for RCT3 were crazy amazing and you could make very hyper realistic recreations, the engine was solid.
Im very saddened that this great man is already 62... so we might only have this legend on the living side for 20-35 years... which i hope we do...
Small Feedback. The constant effect going over the screen makes the video SO painfull to watch. pls cut those back there is no need for them. The video would have been just as good without them.
“Tony Stark was able to build this in a cave! With a box of scraps!" Yup thats him
Oh yes, anyone younger than 30 has totally never heard of this game so you're the first to explain it to them. It's not like some of us got it when we were incredibly young and played the hell out of it
Gabe is who we all are inside and strive to do/be and what the pc community embodies most the greed of wanting to move tech in a positive direction not for money or monetary stuff but for advancement of tech and innovation for everyone to enjoy for generations to come he is and always will be the voice, the moral compass that reaches through the void shedding light on the stuff that really matters that is just having fun doing what we love to do and be that is being the meme the legend, one and only true gamer.
